The Alder Court site offers a unique opportunity for Hythe to meet its housing and extra care housing targets at a site on the immediate edge of the settlement boundary of Hythe and Saltwood.

The site has a draft allocation for extra care housing under policy UA15 of the Council’s emerging Places and Policies Local Plan.

An outline planning permission was approved in May 2017 to construct 84 extra care apartments on the site with access and landscaping, under planning reference Y15/0720/SH.

The initial application was subject to the submission of a Reserved Matters application outlining in more detail the appearance, layout and scale of the development. An Illustrative Parameter plan was submitted which suggested the accommodation would be arranged over two blocks, ranging from two- to four-storeys in height.

The site has been actively marketed to potential care home providers and developers throughout the lifetime of the outline consent for 84 extra care units.

Following the marketing period and further consideration on viability matters, GSE Group has redesigned the scheme to deliver a mix of private residential units and extra care apartments. The apartments would be managed by GSE Group.
